The tradition of hiding rubber ducks on cruises began in 2018 when a young girl named Abby decided to spread joy by leaving small rubber ducks around a Carnival cruise ship. Her idea quickly caught on, and soon, passengers across different cruise lines—including Disney, Royal Caribbean, and Norwegian—began participating in this fun scavenger hunt. Now, thousands of travelers bring their own ducks aboard, hiding them for others to find, making every voyage a little more exciting!
Our Cruise Duck Adventure
For our family, the cruise duck tradition is more than just a game—it’s a way to spread joy and create unexpected moments of fun! On our Disney Dream cruise from Europe to the Bahamas, we are bringing a special collection of sailor-themed ducks and Marvel superhero ducks to hide around the ship.
Inspired by the legendary pirates who sailed these waters 300 years ago, our ducks have traveled from Valencia, Spain, across the ocean, just like the adventurers of the past! Now, they are ready to bring smiles to fellow cruisers who stumble upon them during this magical voyage.
How It Works
If you find a cruise duck, here’s what to do:
Keep or Hide – You decide! You can keep the duck as a souvenir or re-hide it for someone else to discover.
Follow the Rules – Please place ducks only in public areas. No hiding in shops, pools, or hot tubs!
Share the Fun – Take a photo and share it on social media using cruise duck hashtags or our special event tag to join in on the fun!
While the tradition of hiding rubber ducks on cruise ships has gained popularity, it’s important to note that Disney Cruise Line’s official policy prohibits guests from hiding items, including rubber ducks, in staterooms or public areas. This policy aims to ensure the safety and comfort of all passengers.
If you choose to participate in this activity, please do so respectfully and responsibly:
Avoid hiding ducks in prohibited or potentially hazardous locations, such as pools, hot tubs, shops, or any areas where they might pose a safety risk or inconvenience to others.
Always consider the ship’s guidelines and the well-being of fellow guests to maintain a pleasant environment for everyone on board.
By adhering to these practices, we can all contribute to a safe and enjoyable cruise experience.
